SSRI's mission to improve the quality of life in Sandy Springs has succeeded with a significant iinvestment in the Central Business District including installation of streetscape and funding for future installations. With the inception of the City of Sandy Springs, SSRI and the City began the process of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two entities to transfer work, and the funding, for several streetscape projects. The MOU was signed and accepted by City Council on July 17, 2007. Approximately 1.9 million dollars of funding procured by SSRI will be transfered to the City as these projects proceed to construction, with an additional 5 million in reserved state and federal funding payable to the City on a reimbursement basis via the Georgia Department of Transportation. For a description of these projects and the expected timing click here.
SSRI will remain as a legal entity through the completion of the above projects. Both the Sandy Springs Conservancy and the Sandy Springs Business Association were initiated and supported by SSRI until the point at which they could perform on their own. In October, 2007 SSRI introduced the Sandy Springs Arts Alliance, with the mission of building a cultural arts center and the goal to become an independent entity. The Alliance is currently in the research stage and progress will be reported on this site. To get involved contact SSAA@sandysprings.org
