A community effort is underway to improve the Northwood Drive area and address some of the recent problems affecting the neighborhood. The Northwood Drive Community Association has come together to reduce crime, help the homeless, provide a facility
for day laborers and clean up the Northwood Drive neighborhood which consists of many Hispanic residents, apartment complexes and condominiums.

The association is a coalition of residents, property owners, business owners, SSRI, Keep Sandy Springs North Fulton Beautiful and Fulton County government representatives who work on various issues facing the Northwood community.

To manage the day laborer population, SSRI is looking to locate a day laborer facility in the Northwood Drive area. SSRI is seeking property or an existing building for the facility and is also seeking funds for renovations and operations.

SSRI is also focused on providing increased pedestrian safety on Northwood Drive by seeking funds for sidewalks on both sides of the heavily traveled road.

Other members of the association have successfully sought grants for other Northwood efforts. Keep Sandy SpringsNorth Fulton Beautiful received a $10,000 grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. KSSNFB will focus on community clean-up/improvement projects and encourage community and stakeholder collaboration.

The first Northwood Community Association newsletter was written in English and Spanish for distribution to 1,500 residents and business in September. The association plans community meetings for residents and business owners. For more information contact Chawnn Redden, SSRI Community Planner 404-252-9352.
